Ikšķile is a separate town in Ogre municipality with its own water company, Ikšķiles māja, which publishes water checks for three networks: Ikšķile, Tīnūži and Ceplīši. Below we explain what this data shows and how we choose a source by the Daugava and on slopes.
Ikšķile network water: what the checks show
Ikšķiles māja publishes drinking water tests once a quarter. In the latest report we found (sample of 17.08.2026, Peldu iela 22), the pH was 7.6, electrical conductivity 590 µS/cm, turbidity 0.35 NTU, colour 2 mg/l Pt, and no E. coli or coliforms were found. Iron and hardness were not measured in this report, so we make no claims about them.
At the end of August, the company disinfected the Ikšķile network (24.–25.08.2026) and then the Tīnūži network (31.08.–01.09.2026), and advised boiling drinking water during that time. The company does not publish a list of streets without a network.
If the house is connected to the network and the taste or sediment bothers you, start with a sample from your own tap; a basic water test costs from €35 and also shows hardness and iron. For drinking water, a reverse osmosis filter in the kitchen is often enough (with installation from €250).
The Daugava, the reservoir and steep slopes
Ikšķile lies by the Daugava and the reservoir, some places have steep slopes, and the railway limits the routes between parts of the town. Near water, groundwater can be close to the surface, but that does not yet mean a spike well will give clean water: the shallow layer is more sensitive to rainwater and nearby wastewater. We cannot tell the groundwater depth in Ikšķile without data from neighbours' sources or a trial borehole.
On a slope, the drilling rig needs a level, stable pad. If there is none, we look for another spot on the plot or recommend a spike well, which can be installed with smaller equipment. Because of the railway, the route to some streets is longer, so we ask for the exact address in the request.
How we choose between a spike well and a borehole
| Situation | What we recommend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A new house lived in all year | Borehole with a submersible pump, from €65/m | More stable amount of water, the aquifer is covered from above by denser layers |
| A garden or summer house on sandy ground | Spike well, from €350 | The cheapest source, if the water level is no deeper than 7–8 m |
| There is a network in the street, but the garden needs watering | Spike well as a separate system | You do not spend network water on the garden |
| An old dug well with cloudy water | Well cleaning, from €150, and a water test | Cleaning and a new bottom filter are often enough |
Detailed comparison: spike well or borehole. Service pages: spike well installation in Ikšķile, borehole drilling, water pump installation (submersible pump installation from €200, pump separate) and well cleaning.
A borehole about 30 m deep costs from €2,000 without the pump and the pipe run. If it is deeper than 20 m, the drilling company applies for a licence from the State Environmental Service before drilling (state fee €35.57), and after the work the borehole passport is approved by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) (€115.34). These are state charges, and we show them separately in the quote.
Ogre municipality rules: two sources, two systems
Ogre municipality binding regulations No. 24/2025 (since 02.10.2025) apply in Ikšķile. If a building takes water from two independent systems, for example its own well or borehole and the network, they must be separated and metered, and the two must not be used at the same time (point 12). For new buildings and reconstruction, connection is compulsory if there is a network in the adjacent street and the spatial plan provides for it (point 11).
There is no municipal co-financing (subsidy) for connection in Ikšķile. The explanatory note to binding regulations No. 9/2022 says that the former Ikšķile municipal council had not adopted such rules, and we found no new Ogre municipality support scheme. So for a new build with no network in the street, your own source is usually the only way.
