Mārupes komunālie pakalpojumi (MKP) supplies water in ten villages to users within the village boundaries, and outside them a house has to be supplied from its own source. Here are the prices and rules for both routes, and how we work in Mārupe.
Where Mārupe municipality has an MKP water main
MKP supplies mains water in these villages: Piņķi, Babīte, part of Spilve village, Priežciems, Spuņciems, Tīraine, Skulte, Vētras, Jaunmārupe and Mārupe village (except the airport area). Whether the network reaches your address can be checked on the MKP GIS map at marupe.gis.sungis.lv. The company does not publish a list of areas where houses use their own source.
The place description characterises Mārupe as a fast-growing suburb where dense housing areas turn into village and rural land, with drainage ditches and lower-lying spots, and where streets in the new districts can be narrow and have different surfaces. So two addresses in the same municipality can call for quite different solutions.
Co-financing for a water main connection: €30/m up to €1,500
Mārupe municipality binding regulations No. 16/2025 (in force from 03.06.2025) support both water main and sewerage connections. For the water main, the standard support is €30 per metre, up to €1,500 in total, of which up to €300 may go on documents. Increased support, €50/m up to €2,000, applies to low-income households, families with a child under 18, people with disabilities, pensioners and a few other groups.
Conditions: the main is in the adjacent street, the applicant has been registered as resident at the property for at least a year, and the connection was built after 01.07.2022. The house was put into service before the connection, there are no tax or utility debts, and a contract with MKP is signed after connecting. The money is paid after the work, the committee decides within 30 working days, and funding is limited to the annual budget.
Example: if the connection from the street to the house is 40 m, the standard support is 40 × €30 = €1,200. The technical conditions are free and valid for a year; the water tariff from 01.07.2026 is €0.78/m³ excluding VAT. For a new build the sequence condition matters: you can get the support if the house was put into service before the connection was built.
When your own source in Mārupe pays off
Your own source makes sense if the house is outside the village boundaries or there is no main in the street. It also works as a second source: drinking water from the MKP network and, for the garden, a spike well for garden watering. Mārupe's binding regulations say nothing about local sources, but technically we do not connect your own source to the network: they stay two separate systems.
| Option | What to budget for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Spike well | Spike well, pump station, inlet into the house | from €350 (usually €350–650), without pump |
| Borehole ~30 m | Drilling, equipment, pump, pipe run | borehole from €2,000, equipment from €500, pump installation from €200 |
| MKP connection | Design, construction up to the house, meter assembly | not our work; support €30/m up to €1,500 |
| Filter for your own source | Based on the test result | iron removal or a water softener with installation from €600 |
If your plot is in a lower-lying spot with drainage ditches, it is important that the top of the source does not flood and that rainwater does not run in along the pipe. For a borehole we then choose a higher spot and bring its top above ground or put it in a well-sealed caisson. We do not assume the groundwater depth or iron content in Mārupe in advance: the neighbours' sources, drilling and water testing show them.
Working in Mārupe's new housing areas
On the new streets, plots often already have a fence, paving and utilities laid. Before drilling, we find out where the electricity cable, gas pipe and sewer run, and choose a spot where the rig can stand without damaging the driveway. On a narrow street it also matters where the machinery can stop without disturbing the neighbours.
If you need water during construction, spike well installation in Mārupe is a cheap temporary source that you can later keep for the garden. More about the order of work: water supply for a new house. If a spike well or borehole has iron, the solution is usually water treatment, not a new source. For a permanent home with higher water use, people choose a borehole.
A spike well or borehole up to 20 m with abstraction up to 10 m³ per day needs no licence from the State Environmental Service (VVD); for a deeper borehole the drilling company applies for one. A well and a borehole are first-group engineering structures, so ask the Mārupe municipal building authority (būvvalde) about an explanatory memorandum (paskaidrojuma raksts).
