Buildings get their water from the Rīgas ūdens (Riga's water utility) network, so boreholes are not needed here. We install and maintain kitchen filters, take water samples and help the building manager understand the result.
Water in Zaķusala: what we know and what we do not
Zaķusala is not on the Rīgas ūdens 2025 report list of neighbourhoods lacking a water main or sewerage, and in 2025 the company renewed water mains here. Rīgas ūdens describes its sources only by the banks of the Daugava: consumers on the right bank receive groundwater from Baltezers and Zaķumuiža, while most consumers on the left bank receive surface water from the Daugava. We found no public information on which source supplies the island, so we do not state one.
This means that on the island we choose a filter not on an assumption, but on the building's water test, or at least on what the appliance requires. The city averages in 2025 were hardness 1.82 mmol/l, iron 0.11 mg/l and pH 7.1, but those are averages for the whole of Riga.
The office kitchen: reverse osmosis, cartridges or nothing

In a large office, one reverse osmosis unit may not keep up with demand at lunchtime, so we choose a tank with a margin or fit two units on different floors. A maintenance schedule so the filter does not become a problem
A filter whose cartridges have not been changed for years can make the water worse, not better. In an office this is easy to forget if nobody is assigned responsibility for the filter. So we recommend one maintenance schedule for the whole building: on what date each cartridge and membrane was changed, and when the next change is due according to the manufacturer's recommendation.

Water testing for a building manager
A building manager usually needs a water test after pipe repairs, when tenants complain about colour or taste, or before installing new kitchen equipment. We take samples at several points: at the building inlet, on the furthest floor and at the problem spot. If the results differ, that shows whether the issue lies in the building's internal pipework or already in the incoming water. Development projects and access to the island
For a new building in Zaķusala, as everywhere in Riga, connection to the city network is mandatory if the building uses water and a service pipe already reaches the boundary of the land unit. Access to the island is via the Salu Bridge, and the traffic junctions are concentrated. We agree entry and parking at the large complexes with the building manager before the working day.
